The Asian American Power Network, a national alliance of state-based 501(c)(4) advocacy and political organizations dedicated to empowering Asian American communities across the country, is endorsing Kamala Harris for President.
As the daughter of South Asian and Jamaican immigrants, Kamala Harris’s candidacy represents a historic and significant milestone for our nation. Throughout her tenure as the first woman, Asian American, and Black vice president, she has advocated for policies that expand economic opportunity, healthcare access, reproductive justice, and civil rights. Her tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act has brought needed economic relief to Asian American communities across our states, while also committing historic amounts of investment to fighting climate change. We are excited to advocate for Vice President Harris’s proposed “Opportunity Economy,” which will increase much-needed investments in small businesses, the care economy, and more.
While we are grateful to Vice President Harris for acknowledging the immense human suffering in Gaza, recognition alone is not enough. The Asian American Power Network calls on Vice President Harris to demand an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and end the shipment of weapons to Israel if elected president. In addition, we urge her to halt the targeted deportation of Southeast Asian Americans, which has tripled this year, and prioritize a path to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
The stakes in this election could not be higher. We need a leader who will move our country beyond the divisiveness and xenophobia that Donald Trump represents and fight for all marginalized communities, including Asian Americans, immigrants, and refugees.
Right now, many of our member organizations are on the ground mobilizing Asian American voters – who are the margin of victory in key battleground states – around the importance of electing Kamala Harris as our next president. Our member organizations work year-round in critical states across the country to earn our voters’ trust and fight for the policies that improve our communities’ day to day lives. This year, our member organizations will collectively make 7 million calls, knock on over 1 million doors, send 2.5 million pieces of mail, and spend over $5 million on paid communications, all in the languages our communities are most comfortable being contacted in. And after this election, we will hold the leaders we elect accountable to the commitments they make to our voters and continue to push them on the areas where they fall short.
We hope to work with a Harris-Walz administration on achieving the change our people need.
